TV show thread (2022-?)

You think they’re immune to this behaviour because they’re european? I can think of an example instantly.

1899, German production from the makers of Dark.

From wiki:

Audience viewership

During its debut week, 1899 ranked at number two on Netflix’s Top 10 TV English titles just three days after its release with 79.27 million hours viewed.[25][26] The following week, the series remained at the same position and garnered 87.89 million viewing hours.[27][28] In its third week, the series generated 44.62 million viewing hours, while also holding its position at number two.

Critical response

The series received generally positive reviews. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds an approval rating of 79% based on 28 reviews, with an average rating of 6.80/10

Collider named 1899 as one of the best new TV shows of 2022,[33] while MovieWeb ranked it the sixth best TV show of the year.

Axed…after one season.

One of childhood friends older brother was just like Ray.

Though none of us knew what he did for employment. When his Dad died, I went to the funeral and “Ray” looked like something out of the GodFather. I asked my friend what “Ray” did for a living and he mentioned the name of a well known criminal Carlton identity, and said that he fixed things for him. I looked blankly and asked what that meant, and it was exactly what “Ray” did. As far as I know never been in trouble with the Law.

Just finished watching HOTD S02 E05 ‘Regent’. Much like in the best seasons of GOT, some may find these types of episodes that deal with the consequences after the major violence of the mid-season-climax too dialogue-heavy and slow but for me the pacing was fine. The sets, costumes and props are exquisite. The CGI and shot framing is top notch and the acting is good, especially Emma D’Arcy as Rhaenyra and Ewan Mitchell as Aemond. Also raises the usual ethical questions about committing war atrocities. There was also some social media kerfuffle in a teacup about the Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) incest scenes and the graphic ■■■■■■■■ a few episodes ago but this season has been very enjoyable. Only three episodes to go, alas.

What the GOT ‘franchise’ needs next is a spin-off series about the Fall of Valyria but there is currently no source material and George may never get around to writing it.

I’m shocked at the high praise for 1899, I found it to be cliche’d as all hell.

The first episode was very intriguing however none of the answers which unfolded in later episodes were interesting.

I know I’m missing the point of your post- I otherwise agree with it.

Dark was fantastic though.

Agree, loved this episode. Think it’s growing really nicely into its own and have very few complaints about this season so far. Not that the first season wasn’t good, it was.

Not far from finishing Series 3 of Slow Horses. Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb is a beauty. You almost feel as if you can smell him from your seat.

Nearly finished Mr Inbetween. Surprised to see that Scott Ryan only has 2 credits…this and The Magician, which may well be a precursor to Mr Inbetween. Not for the delicate of ear or thought though.

Three episodes into Vikings: Valhalla and two episodes into The Bay, season 2.

And keeping up with The House of the Dragon.

Plenty of shows to watch coming up on the streaming channels too.

Don’t know if anyone seen the upcoming Channel 10 - Paramount show with Asher Keddie and David Wenham. They’ve been showing the ad twice in a single ad break. Won’t be watching it.

My sister forgot to cancel her trial period with Apple TV so I’m bludging off that.

Looks like I’ll be getting a trial period in September.

My wife wishes she could have a trial period instead of a recurring subscription.

Finished Slow Horses and Mr Inbetween.

I thought someone wrote that Mr Inbetween has another series coming. The last episode left it open.
