Yes
Thanks for the recommendation, this is great.
Finishes on SBS in 3 weeks though.
This is NOT a recommendation.
There’s an English author called Beth O’Leary who’s had a couple of her novels made into series. The Flat Share was on Channel 10 (and Paramount).
I read her latest published book, The Road Trip, and didn’t think it was too bad, and then hunted out the streaming version on Paramount.
It’s about 2 group who are both going to Scotland for the wedding of a mutual friend. DYlan and Addie split up 2 years ago, with him not knowing why and her not saying. They’re driving toi Scotland separately in her Mini and his mate, Marcus’s, Porsche. But they all but crash leaving London, and end up going in her Mini.
There are so many differences between the book and the TV version that I wonder why the changes were made. They added nothing.
Book - Addie is going with her half-sister, Deb, who’s just had a baby. In the TV show, there’s a whole different story. Deb’s lesbian partner wants to be a mother but can’t get pregnant.
Book - wedding in Scotland in the mini, TV in Málaga, campervan
Book - her parents lovely, his father ■■■■■■■■, but mother great. TV his father the only parent still an ■■■■■■■■
TV - days spent at a karaoke bar where no Spaniards seem to live. Book - nada
Book - Addie is 5 foot, TV she’s about 5’10. Her size is a factor.
Just so many differences which don’t improve the story.
One thing…his father played by Adrian Lukis (Mr Wickham in Pride and Prejudice, one of the 10/10 arseholes in British TV). Now he plays Dylan’s father, while Dylan’s mate, Marcus, who needs his lights punched out repeatedly. They’re friends.
I really hate it when details are changed so dramatically for no apparent reason.
Thanks Em. So worth the effort.
First episode I felt a bit underwhelmed! I wanted more outie action!
Thanks, I’ll get straight onto this
Edit: hah, I was gonna say the concept sounds very Japanese, turns out it is
the speed date may be the hardest i have laughed at anything since borat 2
Just finished the series, phenomenal TV
Agree with all this. First ep I thought, well if they’re not laughing, am I gonna find this funny? Cos it’s not funny.
Then watched ep 2 and 3 and realised they just hadn’t really warmed up yet.
Ok, watched it all now. Ep5 destroyed me.
Joe’s Stars In Their Eyes, with the guy sketching ■■■■■… I don’t know how no one lost it
Pretty stacked cast for this one
superb
Did the first two eps of Adolescence last night. Disappointed given the hype.
Spoiler: So half the cops in London knock your down door at dawn and then arrest your 13 year old child and tell you it’s for murder. Amid much indignation, spluttering and carry on no one, much less the accused, ever asks ‘Murder you say. Who?’ Right.
sam pang tonight might be the peak of 21st century australian television, leaving us with a grim 75 years ahead
The show will only be as good as its guests.
Liam Neeson and Marisa Tomei were in town three weeks ago. Not much good now, but still…
I’d watch that.
Can’t be the same faces we see all the time.
Eps 3 is intense great acting from a first timer.
Handmaids tale starts soon cant ■■■■■■■ wait.
Yep, 100%. Both eps (3/4) were excellent. Wife and I sat there in total silent for the duration of ep 3. Stunning for a novice.
New doco on netflix about forrest fenns treasure hunt really enjoyed it.
The books are awesome and they seem to have done a pretty decent job of this. Really quirky sci-fi show about a security robot that has gained sentience, which has turned it into an emotional mess and so watches soap operas all day in between gun fights.
Any opinions on White Lotus S3 that finished this week?
I found it quite slow to get moving but it did pick up considerably around the half-way point. Whether it’s better than previous seasons is debatable. Personally, S2 (Sicily) is still the pick.
