TV show thread (2022-?)

Those were a step up from this but yeah, not exactly Twin Peaks

I’m halfway through and coming round to you blokes’ way of thinking.
Few deadset horrors in that town.

I’m trying to watch this but I just can’t understand what Scottish people say. Worst accent ever.

@brem06 would not approve of this.
Try using subtitles, makes following the story a lot easier.

I use subtitles for every movie/TV series I watch, even those in English.

Also not in the same hemisphere as that awful Seth Efrican accent.

Lol. My great grandmother was from a fishing village up north of Scotland. Her accent was so thick that other Scots couldn’t understand her.

As for Dept Q, great show. The accents aren’t that bad. Also, I’m telling you now, the Scottish accent is far more pleasing to the ear than the Australian one. We sound awful.

Finished The Survivors AND Shetland S9 last night.

Didn’t pick either ending. I thought The Survivors improved.

Shetland season 9 was fantastic, one of their best.

The only normal way of doing it.

This could belong more in the non-English language thread, but I saw that an older French cop show, Braquo, was starting on Prime. 4 series.

It was all dubbed.
Into Spanish.
And subtitled in English.

I don’t notice for a moment or two…presumably because I regularly watch shows from both countries, never dubbed.

I just watched a bit and the video of boats sailing past Notre Dame along the Seine made me think, yes, it is set in France.

The show is quite reminiscent of Spiral. The cops are quite circumspect about the laws.

Shetland is one of my favourites but l am about 3 seasons behind by now.

Just finished the first 3 seasons of Yellowjackets.

It starts off great, not sure I’d say it finishes that way. But I do struggle when I hate almost every main character of an ensemble cast, but the story/mystery is interesting enough to have kept me watching.

And the soundtrack absolutely rocks.

Yep, Scottish is aural nectar next to our mongrelised cockney/american pollution

Definitely a weird one, quite enjoyable in bits and agree on the music. Christina Ricci is the eventual standout, and her younger self is great too, after I thought I was going to hate both of them

Ive come very late to the party but have smashed through a few seasons of Slow Horses. If you like a bit of light hearted spy drama stuff, you will enjoy this.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before.

Have you ever tried to understand a Glaswegian on the turps?

I just don’t get this ludicrous assertion that the Australian accent is Americanised. And if any youngish influencer types try it, a good flogging should sort them out.

You’ve just described three nights a week for three years for me

It’s actually easier than you think…

“here mate, gonnae tap us a snout?” - Excuse me friend, could I have one of your cigarettes?
“gonnae no dae that?” - Could you please refrain from what you are currently doing?
“ya belter!” - I am very pleased with this outcome.
“get tae ■■■■ ya wee bawbag” - Please leave me alone, I find you and/or your behaviour somewhat beyond the pale.
“It’s pure Baltic” - Goodness, it’s cold.
“Taps aff” - The sun has appeared in the sky.
“Did ye, aye?” - The sentence you have just uttered lacks credibility, and I have cause to doubt it.
“Aye, ah wis mad wi’ it” - Yes, I was incredibly intoxicated.
“■■■■ the Huns” - Fark Rangers

Not sure if haven’t got a Scooby is Scottish and northern England, but I do hear it on the British Chase on the odd occasion.
FYI haven’t got a Scooby is short for haven’t got a Scooby Doo, ie haven’t got a clue.
