i think the studio stuff has been some of the best gear in ages. i love how they’re actually arguing and fighting for points rather than just being happy to be there.
phil’s got that journeyman comedian vibe about him. like you’d go to his show and laugh the whole time, but come away not remembering any of the jokes.
-edit- ania at the very start of the painting task absolutely killed me. i rewound it twice when it happened, then when they showed the replay it tipped me over the edge
Haha yeah. It was like a kid thinking they had been let off the leash at the supermarket, the noise was the perfect cherry on top
No idea how anyone was supposed to guess the answer to the duck task, that was unbelievably hard. The only thing you could do is count the ducks at the start, but I was convinced they were a distraction to take their focus away
Good season and individually good contestants (Wozniak is top 10 of all time) but the Covid years all lacked for atmosphere in the studio - appeared harder for them to play off each other when physically separated.
Just finished Alien Earth. Or to be more accurate, I just ran out of episodes of Alien Earth to watch, because they basically cut the show off on a cliffhanger part way through the plotline with absolutely nothing resolved. And we’ll probably have to wait month for them to decide whether they’re going to commission a second season, and then it’ll take years to make, and given most of the filming of season 1 happened years ago, all the actors will look utterly different by the time they get around to it. Fkg streaming TV economy.
There’s a really interesting show about AI, consciousness, and where humanity begins and ends happening here. The show is at its best when it focuses on that. Unfortunately, to tell a good Alien story you have to be able to write horror, and they just can’t. The sheer amount of moronic decisions supposedly smart people are forced to make in order to allow the plot to work and the gribblies to get out and start eating people is just ludicrous. There’s no tightness, no sense of time and space, even at the climax people are spread out all over the place paying attention to their unrelated plotlines and behaving as if there is in fact no horrifying massacres happening in the lab down the corridor.
Interesting sci-fi show, bad Alien show, unfortunately.
I’m really enjoying Morning Wars aka The Morning Show (renamed in Oz because we have a The Morning Show).
I know some people aren’t a fan of Jennifer Anniston, but Billy Crudup mooooore than makes up for it.
He’s so, so good.
And the scene in season one episode 3, Chaos Is the New Cocaine, with Steve Carrell and Martin Short is…it’s up there. Well and truly worth watching on its own.
Mrs 10 and I have been watching that and we’re a couple of eps into series 2. I’ve had enough. I liked it at first, as you do, but it just goes on and on at an increasingly intense level to the point where, now, I can’t take any more. I’ve ceased to care about any of the principal characters.
Obviously I’m going to say it’s worth pushing through. There are some very tense episodes in later seasons.
I will admit that some of the decision-making and moral stances from the characters make me want to tear what little hair I have left out, but…Cory Ellison…
Italian drama tv show recounting Mussolini’s rise to power.
It’s done in a weird way whereby Mussolini will constantly break the 4th wall and speak directly to the audience.
I cant tell whether it’s terrible or genius. The dude who plays il duce has so much charisma, and I say without any exaggeration that it’s one of the best performances I have ever seen on tv.
But the episodes are just carbon copies and it’s feeling all a bit repetitious. Also the scope of the show is quite small which doesn’t help.
But I can’t get over the dude who plays il duce. Genuinely feels like he has really just turned into the leader himself.
