TV show thread (2022-?)

Sad that Euphoria cast member Angus Cloud passed away at 25 I think that’ll really rock the show/cast.

Sounded like it was half-expected. Clearly had MH issues. Not that I’d ever heard of him, or the show Euphoria, before.

How good is Righteous Gemstones and how much does BJ look like Jack Riewoldt

They love pushing the boundaries! That bath scene…

Been on a couple of Acorn TV offerings recently after finishing Bang on SBS, Die Füchsin on Stan, The Witcher on Netflix.

Domina on Stan, about Livia, the wife of Augustus and mother of Tiberius, drops every Monday, and the rest of the second Lincoln Lawyer series drops today or tomorrow.

The two new ones are London Kills, with Hugo Speer as a DI whose wife has been missing for months and he’s suspected of murdering her. There are 4 series now.

The second is Y Golau (The Light in the Hall - English language, not Welsh like Bang) about a guy who’s spent 18 years in prison for murdering a schoolgirl and is released to his hometown in West Wales. Stars Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton from GOT) and Alexandra Roach as a friend of the murdered girl who’s now a journalist. 2 eps in.

so it wasn’t that long ago i rewatched a lot of old thank god you’re here episodes and they… hadn’t aged particularly well. there were some cracking highlights but it’s wasn’t as consistent as you’d probably remember it being. so the new season i was a bit, eh

well, laughed myself silly watching it. the “can you give us an example” bit in the final sketch sent me over the edge.

thinking about it now i don’t reckon the old version had a lot of variety in its casting. comedic actors, radio hosts and the occasional observational stand-up. the new ep had a few different styles that led to more laughs. obviously a bit remains to be seen in rest of the season, but i hope they throw more opportunities to lesser known comics this time around rather than keep reusing the same olds.

Celia Pacquola seems (without watching it yet) a good choice of host, too.

It was a good start. Celia did an ok job. She’ll continue to warm to the role with each episode. Julia and Urzila were the standouts for mine. Quick and fast thinking on their feet in different ways. Unfortunately Aaron Chen not so much. Maybe the improv doesn’t suit him as well!?

Yeah. Silo is really good, has a similar storytelling style to peak Lost. I’ve started reading the books since watching the show.

urzila was so good. i’d just about watch a whole six episode series of that setup.

the awkward/cringe thing is chen’s whole schtick so i reckon it was great. that’s my taste though. and part of the appeal of this show’s format is watching them flounder a bit. mark bonanno visibly panicking throughout his whole scene peaking with him death staring toadie while being tickled was absurdist comedy gold.

next week they have fifi box, lloyd langford, geraldine hickey and luke mcgregor so it looks like they’re going at least one “veteran” each week. looking forward to langford, and i reckon we might see an actual panic attack from mcgregor.

Seen the first 3 series of this one. No frills policing with a bit of personal stuff to lighten it up a bit, the fate of the DI’s wife the most prominent.

Not sure I’ll watch this, but speaking of Julia Zemiro, I’ve always thought she was genuinely funny. Don’t know if she’s actually considered a “comedian”, but definitely underrated on this front.

You had me at Lost. I will have to give it a go.

I re-signed up to Binge because I’ve been sitting on my arse with Covid all week, watching tv.

I was excited to watch the last season of Barry.

WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK HAS THIS SHOW TURNED INTO???

I’m 6 episodes in and it’s the weirdest thing I’ve seen for a long time.

Certainly takes a different turn but they had to wrap it up someway.

Ending is pretty good/

Yes, this looks interesting.

Will give it a go once all the eps are available. Prefer to view at my own pace rather than the dreaded weekly drop. Wish SBS would stop this outdated practice.

Am enjoying this too but also wish we didn’t have to wait a week for each episode.
