Unpopular Opinion

Fellow public servant?

Mate of mine got bullied in the public service for doing too much work.

Kinda like Saad getting lambasted by truck for running off half back too quickly.

Didn’t like exams much, but at Wilson Hall it was just really distracting. My excuse anyway. Did a number at Exhibition Buidling, and I remember one Chemistry exam where I did rather badly and gave up and left the room midway in the 3 hours. Hopped on my motor bike and roared away.

When the rest of the Uni arrived at PA’s pub, I was already halfcut, to hear them complaining about the fool who sat revving his motor-bike for 5 minutes midway in the exam. 50 years later and still have not told them it was me !!

As a B.Sc student, what were you doing at PA’s? The Clyde was our local when I was there… PA’s was where “the engies” headed…

It was either The Clyde or Naughton’s, where the girls (Arts students!) were far better looking…

I frequented the Clyde as did other maths students.

Naughton’s for end of exams, and Prince Alfred for their steak, tomato and rice, done Chinese-style, for $1 and watching the motor mechanics from Bouverie St play a vicious game of pool.

All true, except it was after a shitful exam and I needed some serious drinking buddies, and at PAs there were always a bunch of drunk engineers.

The Clyde was for boffins, like AN10, and Naughtons was every Thursday from opening to close. It always surprised me that I actually passed any exams.

When I was at Melb Uni, the most interesting thing about PA’s was that it was run by John Platten. If he happened to be on and it was quiet, you could have some good-natured banter with him.

Now let’s ask Monash students which pub they frequented.

Back in the 70s, there were 22 pubs within a half-mile radius of the Parkville campus…probably less than half that these days. The main CUB brewery was walking distance.

You know how somebody will ask a question regarding a matter that was thoroughly discussed a week prior and the forum tells them to re-read the two hundred odd previous posts rather than just helping them out by answering the question?

I think that stinks.

This has been thoroughly discussed on BB on numerous occasions. Why don’t you use the search function, rather than waste our valuable time ?

I loved going to the Nott. Worked at a place in the late 1970s close by and we had lunch there very often. I forget her name but the Owner was a cranky old girl who ran a great pub.

Yes … was a great atmosphere in there. Thursday nights were pretty big from memory.

Now, I’m talking vague recollection but was her name possibly Kath (or Cath)?
