Frosty Fruits, just because of their very reasonable pricing of $4.80 a pop.

Somers St used to have the best food you could get a sporting event. The BBQ’s and spits were absolutely amazing. Unfortunately the day/night usually went downhill from there and it was a good game if you didn’t come home with a new scar

Since we’re on food, kiwi fruit is best eaten with the skin on. It’s also decent between two bits of bread.

And without trying to sound too racist it’s very rare over here now to find a good old “wog” Fish and Chip shop. Most of them have sadly moved on and their kids weren’t interested running it so they are now in the hands of Asian or Indian owners who offer nowhere near the service you once got. Very few actually peel and slice their own spuds anymore and it’s mostly frozen bulk packed rubbish which just isn’t the same.
And yes the extra Potato cake thrown in is a dying art

I’d hate to see it if you did try. :joy:

Our local one was run by a Greek family. They then sold to a Vietnamese family. They did what seemed to be a super long handover/training period. It worked because they maintained the standard that the previous owner had set.

Mine has folks of asian descent working in it and its great.

Service is excellent and serving sizes are great. Fish always fresh.

I think the owners are an old italian couple that work there too though.

Point Cook footy club sell a double potato cake with cheese and bacon in the middle. Tastes good but probably knocks a couple weeks of your life.

I saw these this morning in my local IGA and was initially outraged and devastated.

Upon closer inspection, it appears that Smith’s are having two bob each way.

My old local shopping strip had a fish and chip shop proudly displaying their Greek heritage. The fish and chips were better across the road at the Asian one. :man_shrugging:

Wog fish and chip shops havent been around for a good 15-20 years, at least. Almost every fish and chip shop I have come across is run by an Asian family. Im not sure what difference the ethnicity of the person running the shop makes though. If you want a wog to serve you food, get a kebab.

I see they have the correct way on the front.

from my experience WOG fish and chips you still get the “fat”(wide) chips. Potato cakes and fish are a generous size.
gives the impression that the chips were hand cut, although surely they would just have a machine for it. They are probably a bit greasier and get a generous helping.

Asian fish and chips well, minimum chips is minimum, need to order more, and seems to be a little more pricey. quality pretty good, not as greasy.

I still have a regional takeaway store where i can get a small chips and gravy for $3

I honestly think the whole “wog v asian” fish and chip shop debate is a load of nonsense and just people feeding into their own stereotypes.

Regardless of ethnicity, there are some good fish and chip places, and some absolutely rancid fish and chip places. To try and generalise the quality of fish and chips to a specific ethnicity is just stupid.
