Unpopular Opinion

Just picked up a bag this morning

Sydney test should be played in Melbourne.

We had a stack particularly in the Western suburbs where you would go in and one of the old family members would be peeling and slicing up the spuds whilst another would be busy making the salads and there was always some sort of homemade desert on the counter like a Baklava or something. We had a couple of really good ones near us that Greek Cypriots owned and the food was the best but it went downhill rapidly after they sold up. Last time I went into one of them they had I to get some chips they had Indian owners and were using frozen McCain crinkle cut chips and had frozen fish already battered and crumbs in boxes. Haven’t been back since. Very rare here now to find hand cut chips unfortunately

Again not sure what difference it makes that the owners are Indian?

Wog places do the exact same thing.

The decline in the perceived quality of your fish and chips is not tied to the ethnicity of the person making them.

Maybe they do now and it’s a sign of the times but the majority of fish and chip shops around are pretty trash now

All fish and chips is ■■■■. Always has been. Deep fried salty carbohydrate. Feel like death after eating it.

I do value mine having moved fairly recently to the area i value it more highly than a decent cafe.

Cafes are a dime a dozen.

Also too many american style hamburger joints.

Incidently my fish n chip shop does the best australian style hamburger. So good that sometimes i forgo a seafood feed for it.

I worked in a chippy in my home town while I was studying. They used real potatoes, peeled a cut by a big machine, then par cooked and stored in huge plastic tubs in the cool room. Years later when I was managing a restaurant they served the skinny fries or ‘chip shop chips’ which you can only buy from the wholesaler.

One of the biggest problems with cutting your own chips these days is the availability of the correct potatoes. The floury ones that make the best chips are usually only available through the cooler months.

People are throwing the Wog word around very liberally in this thread…

You dont have to feel offended on their behalf, its ok.

Don’t be racist.

cool story bro

Soup du jour is another dodgy food product. It always seems to taste differently.

Groan.

But on french.

A good french onion soup with the croutons is pretty good

This is exactly what happened at my local F&C, but I don’t think you’re northside. You might know, it the one from the chiko roll holder commercial.

Anyway, if it’s got 2-3 generation of one family working, you know it’s gonna be good.

My local still only costs about $16 to feed a family of 4!!!

Took me until 45+ to realise I was allergic to eggplant. Had it for dinner once and casually mentioned how I like it but it’s a bit spicy and burns my mouth a bit too much. Mrs THT gave me that ‘is this guy a frickin idiot’ look and banned me from eating it.

So, can we get a review of these chips? I’m on route to the supermarket to chase down a pack.

I can’t crack 'em until the wife gets home from work.

I couldn’t resist buying them and, having sampled the contents, I would say that they’re not bad at all. Dunno if I’d get them again (AND they’re a limited edition) but I’ve had worse.

Definitely not Northside. This was out at Leopold on the Bellarine when I lived there many years ago.
