This is the Judge overseeing the documents case. Her appointment to the case has been described as ‘random’. She has been called on repeatedly to recuse herself. She’s an early 40’s registered Republican, member of the Federalist society and is ‘overtly’ religious in that way that weird American folks who also like swingers parties are, god bless.

“ A federal judge overseeing the criminal case that accuses Donald Trump of mishandling classified documents has signaled an openness to the former U.S. president’s defense claims, in a sign that prosecutors might face a difficult road ahead.
U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, who was nominated to the bench by Trump, has asked Trump and prosecutors to propose jury instructions based on two legal scenarios that favor a claim from Trump that national security lawyers said have little relevance to the charges.
Trump and Special Counsel Jack Smith, who brought the case, face a Tuesday deadline to respond to the judge’s order.
The dispute is another instance of Cannon lending credence to Trump’s legal arguments about highly sensitive records taken to his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida when he left the White House in 2021.
While Trump has clashed with judges in many of his legal cases, Cannon has been receptive to his defense in ways that could alter the course of the documents case.
“You have a court who is more favorable to the views of one party versus the other, and you’re seeing orders and decisions that are reflective of that,” said Brandon Van Grack, a former Justice Department national security official.
Trump has pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of knowingly retaining secret records related to the U.S. national defense and obstructing efforts by the U.S. government to retrieve them.
The prosecution is one of four facing Trump as he seeks to unseat Democrat Joe Biden in the Nov. 5 presidential election. Trump has cast the cases as part of a politically motivated effort to damage his campaign.
At issue in Cannon’s recent order is Trump’s claim that he treated the documents as personal under a 1978 law that allows former presidents to keep records that have no connection to their official responsibilities.
Trump’s lawyers argue his decision to keep the records shows that he deemed them to be his personal property.
Prosecutors have said the documents could not be construed as personal because they relate to U.S. intelligence and military matters. The records law could not authorize Trump to keep classified papers, they said.
Cannon expressed skepticism at a March 14 court hearing that Trump’s claim requires the charges to be tossed out, but said it may prove “forceful” at a future trial.
She later ordered dueling sets of proposed jury instructions, assuming either that the government would have to prove the records belong to the government, or that neither the judge nor the jury could question Trump’s stance that they are personal.
“Both of them are completely irrelevant,” Kel McClanahan, a national security lawyer who has represented members of the U.S. intelligence community, said of the competing scenarios. “And both actually favor the defendant.”
Although still 7 months out, the very latest polls are already saying it’ll be super tight on the night between these two. Numbers have improved for Joe now he’s in full election mode.

However I reckon Wisconsin, Pennsylvania and Michigan will drift back to blue and it’ll come down to who takes Georgia again … it could be that close.
I’m no expert but me thinks the longer Trump’s legal issues play out he’ll probably become more unhinged and in the end turn some voters away. Biden needs to stay upright, keep the economy ticking, limit the gaffes and at least draw the debates. And let the DMC machine go to work with truckloads of its new cash here on end.

Biden doesn’t need Georgia if he holds on to Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. New Mexico may decide it.

Biden is going to win the popular vote and lose the electoral college. People will declare democracy dead… but… when this outcome is not only possible but likely, democracy didn’t really exist in the first place.

“Hate” is too mild a term for what I feel for Stephen Miller. His policies during the initial part of the Trump administration caused unbelievable suffering to so many. As I mentioned before, personally for me, that was an incredibly stressful four years, waiting for my mother to get a visa to be able to live in the country of her children. In fact, because of these specific policies, we had to apply and reapply for the visa on three different occasions. The cruelty of it all was disturbingly apparent.

You have my sympathies, as if the first time around weren’t wretched enough to now have the spectre of it hovering perpetually. I know it’s trite but, just like our lovely Peter Dutton here, I can’t not see Miller in a Gestapo outfit. And further, he’s Kushner’s Dorian Gray Painting. Fark them all with heinous instruments.

Yes. The moment Biden took office the administration told all consulates to fast track family reunifications. After having waited for 25mo, my mum got her visa within 90 days and we could finally see each other after almost 3yrs.

Remind me again who Trump is married too? That’s right an immigrant (obviously she wasn’t poisoning the blood of the country at the time). Seem to remember that the new Mrs Trump took advantage of the existing laws at the time to bring her mother over to live in the states. Good thing that Donald is not a hypocrite.

NEW YORK — Former President Donald Trump posted a $175 million bond Monday to stop collection of a half-billion dollar judgment in the civil fraud case against him, preventing state authorities from seizing his assets while he appeals the verdict.
Trump’s posting of the bond comes after a panel of appellate judges last week ruled that he could post a bond in a significantly smaller amount than the $454 million he owes as a result of the verdict. That decision came after Trump’s lawyers said he lacked the cash to cover the full amount of the penalty and had been rejected by dozens of insurance companies for a bond for the full amount.
According to a court filing, the $175 million bond he and the other defendants posted Monday was provided by Los Angeles-based Knight Insurance Group. The filing didn’t specify which assets Trump used as collateral for the bond.

Because Trump and the other defendants, including his adult sons and their business associates, posted the bond, he won’t have to immediately come up with the cash to pay the judgment. If he hadn’t posted the bond, New York Attorney General Tish James, who brought the lawsuit, could have begun freezing his bank accounts or seizing his property while the appeals process played out. But the bond blocks those collection measures.
The reduction of the bond amount just one more get out of jail card. It’s a lovely system
