US politics - fried (part 5)

@planb

I am curious to hear your response to this.
You may not have met him personally but I’m sure you’ve heard many speeches, read his social media posts and read about him and his life generally. What are your thoughts on how he conducts himself?

The UK has not completely banned puberty blockers . Those on them can continue treatment. Otherwise private and European providers can’t prescribe. They can be used in NHS clinical trials and other limited circumstances ( which could lead to more scientific evidence supportive of puberty blockers to reduce the harm to children with gender dysphoria).

The “ban” (emergency legislation that expires on 3 September) arguably being, of course, a blunt political response by the Sunak government to a reasonably nuanced medical enquiry that determined further monitoring of outcomes was required as part of the trial, and not a finding that there was actual harm being caused.

Are you asking planb for a planc?

That would require investment into public health, which isn’t something you’d bank on Trump delivering.

And sadly, the actual evidence based psychological treatment wouldn’t be delivered, so the counselling if available would be done with one hand tied behind their back.

The bit that gets left out in regard to a ban on puberty blockers is that, by the time a child turns 18yo, extensive surgery would be needed for those who wish to fully transition physically.
The average age for puberty in females is now a lot lower.

The term “proxy war” is a propaganda tool to shift the focus of the war onto the US and diminish the culpability of Putin. And it is extraordinarily effective. See the recent riots in the UK as more example of how Russian propaganda is effective at manipulating western domestic politics.

Sadly the right wing types latch onto this stuff because it fits what they want to believe, that Biden is purely to blame. It’s the “I like that, must be true, use no further mental effort” approach to media.

I can’t get past the notion that some are talking about concepts while others are talking about people.

Not to derail the gender conversation (which shouldn’t be a political issues IMO)…

But is it odd there’s been hardly any noise or information about the shooting at the trump rally?

mean, all things aside, it should be (or would have been) one of the ‘biggest stories of our time’. But all we’ve heard is the usual ‘he was a loner, weirdo, and no motive’.

Edit: to be clear, I am not suggesting a conspiracy. Just that everyone just moved on really quickly from it.

I think @Crazy_Bomber and @planb need to watch this on Netflix.

Cause him being a loner weirdo is pretty likely to be the sole reason for the shooting. As much as we want a more complex story.

It really is.
Having said that, Reagan‘s assassination attempt got even less play.

And we all just swallowed ‘he was trying to impress Jodie Foster.’

We live on a weird planet.
In the worst timeline.
And I’m sure if the kid was posting, and don’t tell me he wasn’t posting, anything remotely left wing then we’d have heard about it.

But moving on from that.
How the hell did it all happen?

And I don’t trust the Media or the cops, but they said someone climbed up on the roof and confronted him. Where’s the interview with this ‘hero’? Where’s the footage? Because they said it happened just before he started firing, but they had footage that didn’t appear to show a cop climbing on the roof and confronting him?

And what about the other people that were injured, surely Trump would be milking them for his own needs?

It’s just a huge event, and it’s as if it didn’t happen.

It says she’s already 18? I may have missed the point tbh

I always back incompetence over conspiracy.

Edit: although I’m just now starting to wonder about Reagan.
What?
How?

Don’t worry about it. He was crazy.
Oh, okay.

Not in the USA: politicians being shot (at) and otherwise attacked is not rare.

More for educational purposes. She was on the blockers from age 9 and had surgery as soon as she turned 18.
You don’t sound like someone who has met any trans people first hand, so thought it would be a good intro. Only goes for half an hour.

The US isn’t past using the term, to avoid consideration that a government it supports may be a bad government in the way it treats its population.

It’s amazing that a discussion on gender reassignment has occupied significantly more discourse in this thread than an actual established conservative scheme to implement an autocracy in the US and destroy democracy

Well maybe not that amazing

He should always be referred to by his title: King Donald.

The guy reminds me of some silly kid throwing sand at the other kids in the sandpit and calling them names. Absolute tosser.

He’s wierd.
