US politics - the end of an error

Is there any reason to expect the insurance companies to fight these claims?

That was basically the reaction my wife had to living there too - but 5 years ago.

Technicalities around what is classed as a flood are a constant clash with insurance companies. Did the water come from above or from below? To us water damage is water damage. To an insurance company, they specifically categorise the cause of the damage and will reject a claim if you aren’t appropriately covered.

We went through this a few years back when we had an “accidental” massive leak in our kitchen the same day our then tenants were moving out (we later found plenty of hidden damage in other places hence the suspicion). The insurance company tried to blame the equipment in the kitchen, then argued with us about the replacement costs for the kitchen floor, and refused to pay for the damage to our shared garage (below the kitchen). Took over 6-months to get any money and of course we had done all the repairs by then. Ended up paying 30% of it out of our own pocket.

Insurance companies are happy to give you an umbrella when it’s sunny, then take it back when it rains.

The Atlantic City Trump casino bites the dust, a symbolic parallel to the Trump Administration which was also terminated in 2021. The Trump casino had a serious problem. Even in 2014, no one wanted to go there. Today the Atlantic City just want to wipe it and its association with Trump off the map.

That is rain vs. flooding. Which is even more critical in the US since they often don’t cover flooding.

Burst pipes are usually (Australia and UK) escape of water. I’d assume its the same over there.

Wonder what the interplay between various apartments and the building. If upstairs has a leak and they aren’t insured, do downstairs get covered by their policy?

If a suburban freestanding neighbor’s pipe leaked and it flooded the yard and into your basement, is that flooding or escape of water?

Gut feel says the insurance companies are going to be painful.

Lets make sure the rich Floridians get vaccinated first. And if you don’t like it, I’ll take it away entirely.

Manatee County is an apt description.

Flooding is specifically major events.

With the rooms, usually your insurance picks up the bill, and then looks around to see if someone else was at fault and they can recover.

No doubt Houston is a strange place, largest city by area in USA, it spreads out all over the place. Flat as a tack, suffers badly from flooding, weather is all over the place, hot, humid summer and often very cold winters. Rains a great deal and tornadoes love the place.

I loved Houston.

But then I spent the entire time at the 1989 Texas Guitar Show where I spent a big insurance payout on 9 or 10 vintage electric guitars.
