US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

I was thinking he’d do it 1) to clear his name and 2) to keep it going as a political stunt (look what they did to me)

Take your own advice and block me then. Then you can get back to your usual MO which, fortunately or unfortunately, everybody is starting to see through. That’s just my opinion based on what Blitz has reported though so take it with a grain of salt. By the way, has it been confirmed that the mayor of LA campaigned on prescience but has thus far failed to show any talent for it? Genuine question.

Of course you are wrong, just admit you are being a ■■■■.

Mayors, Presidents, PM, Premiers all travel either privately or on official business. She was back within 20 hours of the fire starting.

More important things to consider.

And Bill, I have been to Ghana on business and it could never be considered a junket.

Not true. Give us a list of all the junkets every Australian politician has taken.

On the other hand, some private sector junkets, signing on at a Conference and not seen again.
I’ve been on the other end of arranging programs for individual politicians and visiting delegations, briefing them before their meetings . I can’t recall an instance of them not being committed.

Pesky facts and evidence like this are polluting the thread again.

Sounds like … virtue signaling to me.

Or at least, virtue signalling, if you were trying to signal ‘see, I’m an ■■■■■■■■ just like you guys’ to an incoming administration without a single virtue between them.

Vice signalling.

Reeds bending with the breeze. Corporate citizens of the highest order. I’m thinking this is the more natural order for them both though, just a relief all round the campus.

Hi Rupert, give my regards to Lachlan

I went on a number of Austrade delegation and conferences, and at times their were Politicians along. Never saw them shirk their job. On the other hand, those Austrade people knew how to party !!

Yes, feeding the racists and morons is unbelievably lucrative.

Do we really think these wildfires could have been stopped/reduced if the Mayor was around?
I don’t think so.
In a NYT interview with firefighters on the job, they say it wouldn’t help that much if they had more trucks, more water, better planning etc.
Unfortunately, this is the world we live in now.
Every country is struggling with this issue.

This seems to be the point that many conveniently ignore.

The speed and intensity of those fires would have rolled through no matter how many trucks were standing in the way. The high winds kept fire-fighting planes grounded.

The lessons to learn from such events is the need for better housing construction, rural planning, power transmission, forest management - all matters before the event.

Focusing on who was where, and how much water was being pumped is just point scoring.

Unfortunately, such events will happen again. Set in a background of deregulation, cost cutting, political shortsightedness etc., not much will change.

Here in Australia, we all know putting power lines underground is the safest, but we don’t want to bear the cost.

Forest management ditto.

“Your version of the truth” has a lot to answer for

I assume that Californian fire services and capabilities are likely to be some of the best trained, prepared and equiped in the world. It’s not like firefighting is new to them.
