US politics - the new orange wave (Part 7)

I did have a chuckle at that.

The US approach to resolution of the Russo Ukraine war under the new administration is no less an appeasement of Putins aggression, than was Bidens appeasement in the name of prevention of escalation to nuclear conflict.

Victim blaming, and what it appears to be leading to is appeasement by giving Putin what he wants. Its morally even worse than Bidens policy.

Europe on the other hand saw what appeasement to a dictator leads to 90 years ago. I suppose they could kick the USA out of NATO and force Putin back to the pre 2014 borders. Apart from having strategic nuclear weapons, Russia is on its knees militarily and financially, and risks anihilation if it goes nuclear. So it really cannot win, if Europe wants to protect itself, it needs to move now, rather than sit by while Russia re-arms itself with a gazillion drones after Trump releases sanctions on Russia.

The problem with that is that Trump simply isn’t backing off and letting Europe support Ukraine, he’s actively talking about building US cooperation and economic ties with Russia.

If the US starts to normalise economic relations with Russia (presumably starting by relaxing sanctions and unfreezing assets) but the EU increases sanctions, then we’re heading inevitably to a scenario where the EU has to apply sanctions to a US business because they’re dealing with a sanctioned entity in Russia. And how do you think Trump would react to THAT?

Europe probably has to own its own problem anyway.

The US profited enormously from the spoils of WW2 and owes its long primacy to Europe’s blood, not to mention its slave trade and non citizen workforce. Only reason Musk is in space is because of Nazi research, which might explain a few things.

A flip generalisation I know, but much less an offence than any claims of the world owing the US and the US just ‘clawing back its expenses’. It derives enormous benefits from all its international dealings and considerable presence. This short term buzz of burning Europe and other allies is just that, and will only profit the vultures promoting it.

Comparing the previous admins approach to Trump’s on Ukraine is laughably outrageous. And coming from people who have been very happy with the Biden led US gifting Israel 2000lb bombs to literally level Gaza it’s hypocrisy writ large.

“Trump is silly and just making things more difficult….but, but, but”. Makes me retch.

There’s a common process in the art of multilateral negotiations of sherpas guiding parties to consensus, then the formal stage of the parties as a whole adopting an agreement.
Then there’s the Trump process, the art of the deal. Dollars, not sherpas, to get to the end result. I think it was Rubio who said economics will be the guide . Do the Dollar sums

Apparently the art is blurting out all your inner thoughts too early, to give up any leverage you may have.

(If you’re being kind; just as likely the concessions have all been made already and this is just shifting the blame in advance of the ANNOUNCE.)

Trump’s lieutenants are the agents provocateurs, forcing Zelensky and the Europeans to work from Trump’s narrative, defending themselves against his misrepresentations.
It goes wider to how the US operates, it doesn’t negotiate , it works from a position of economic power and technological superiority. An assumption that it holds all the cards. But it may come to a Sputnik moment, when it finds out that China is the winner from what it has secured as an outcome.

We have been told Russia has lost and is on its knees for years now, but they keep taking Ukrainian territory. Putin has said there is no point to a world without Russia, and his supporters lovingly echo him. If Moscow had already lost, you would not be worried about it rearming. The bear is a clear and present threat now and we should not pretend otherwise.

Kash Patel confirmation vote potentially happens today.

It has been confirmed from a number of sources from Trump’s previous administration that Trump does not read briefs. He takes short verbal summaries instead. He is almost totally relying on the interpretation of others. Zelensky is correct when he says Trump is in a disinformation bubble.

Who is feeding Trump? Who is he taking his lines from? Miller? Musk? His Chief-of-Staff, Wiles, must be in on it as well, being the gatekeeper. I believe Trump when he says he has not read Project 25. It is probably the only truth he has uttered in years.
The media and Congress seem compliant - either they don’t know or don’t care. Eventually the wall will crash. Who will be the Woodward & Bernstein who is believed?

Hilarious. Trump would struggle to define ‘geopolitics’. Next, he will tell us Trump, I think, knows a lot about tariffs.

Can someone please clarify, is Russia the enemy, or Ukraine?

In reading the news over the last 24 hrs, I can be excused for thinking Ukraine is terrible and Russia and Putin are great. Its all quite confusing…

What is up is down
What is down is up
Enemies become friends

Its only a few weeks into a 4 year term.

I have a VERY bad feeling about this.
