What I think Trump does (in my mind anyway) actually pulled the curtains back on for lack of a better term American exceptionalism.
As damaging as Trump is perhaps in people’s minds. IMHO his presidency will end up being about enriching himself and his paid actors.
That’s it.
If they are anti Liberalism in values.

And populist. Not sold yet on the fascism fear tactics. Hitler, Mussolini were fascists. Trumps not in that ballpark. He just signals to racists and uses racism to scape goat problems.
Then I think all they will end up really being is very corrupt piggies at the trough.
In tariffs all Trump is really doing is largely putting a consumption tax on his people for anything not American made.
Last time I checked, most crap comes out of China.
So he’s effectively handed the population for example an additional 10% VAT/GST.

I’m struggling to find recent crap from china, apart from trinkets on ebay.
U.S. has similar trinkets, but they cost way more. Not because of Fair work for fair pay laws, but because they are greedy ■■■■■.

Chinese manufacturing in many areas is generally excellent or even world leading.

Every university I worked at had solar panels on every available outdoor flat surface for free charging. Students and staff.

You’re playing the colonial game of “here’s my rationale for why this land should be ruled by someone other than the people living there”… Even if you can accurately play a few cards from history (yes, Taiwan has been colonised many times by many arseholes, including the original KMT [not that I love the current KMT])…
Taiwan suffers for its rampant capitalism but it lives through its democracy, its unique culture - or in a word, its people. It’s doing better than we are in attempting justice for the First Nations of the land; surpasses many other countries in ways of living lovingly and enjoyably; and if you seriously doubt Taiwanese democracy you have never participated in it.
You say Taiwan can’t last much longer - you are saying that it’s not long til it gets colonised again. But ■■■■ that. There is no reason other than invasion by a capitalist dictatorship across the strait. ■■■■ that. For once the world can leave Taiwan alone.
