So much winning

Australia has exported a record amount of beef this year and is on track to surpass 1.5 million tonnes for the first time.

The biggest customer has been the United States, importing about 412,000 tonnes (January to November) which is up 17 per cent year-on-year.

“Because of drought they’ve been liquidating their herd to a 70-year low, and with fewer cows comes less lean beef.”

Mr Quilty said US consumers bore the cost of the tariffs this year.

“To me it was all passed through to the US consumer at the other end,” he said.

Earlier this year, Donald Trump incorrectly stated that “Australia bans American beef”.

As explained by ABC Landline, Australia did not have a ban.

Australia allowed imports of US beef as long as it was from cattle born, raised and slaughtered in the US.

The sticking point was the US’s demand for expanded access, which would allow it to export beef from cattle sourced out of Canada and Mexico and processed in the US.

According to trade data up to the end of October, Australia has imported just 150 kilograms of US beef and 18 tonnes of Canadian beef.

That 150kg of US cow was imported by me, for my very disturbing, very potent Trump voodoo doll. I’m just waiting for it to rot enough to become more accurate (damn chlorine).

Big fat beef snags are selling for 20$ Aus per kilo here in Hobart. My maths are rusty but that’s 3 grands worth of snags from uncle Sam. Must have been delivered in a diplomatic bag for free.

When you think this US administration has probably reached terminal velocity for sheer shithousery …

The U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Tuesday issued an order rebuking the Trump administration’s efforts to defund and shutter the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Earlier in the month, the D.C. Circuit of Appeals agreed to hear an ongoing lawsuit brought by the National Treasury Employees Union, representing CFPB employees, against OMB director and acting CFPB director Russ Vought. The federal appeals court upheld an injunction from the district court ahead of a February hearing, stating that the Trump administration must cease its efforts to shutter the bureau while the case is ongoing

Just to clarify - Vought is one of the writers of Project 2025. He’s been put in charge of writing cheques for government funded departments. They want to close the consumer finance protection watchdog ( it protects US consumers from dodgy lenders and lending practices in the aftermath of the GFC / mortgage crisis). They were told that they can’t close it because it was set up by Congress and now it’s before the courts to test if the Executive can ignore Congress. So to get around this, Vought was then appointed temporary head of the Consumer Finance Protection watchdog and he’s decided that he won’t ask for continuing funding of the watchdog - from HIMSELF In his other role - because “the Federal Reserve has run out of money”. So the Fed is supposedly broke. Even whilst they’re also claiming that they’re rolling in money and winnings due to tariffs etc. All this to try to skirt around the injunction issued to protect the CFP whilst someone works out if Trump has the right to close it without Congress involvement.

It’s now a meaningless question , but at what point does Congress get concerned that they’re irrelevant beneath the King?

On the heels of Bibi’s visit and rumours of pardons for war crimes another 10 aid agencies banned from Gaza, which, to the cynical observer, might smell a bit like more territory for the private for profit US shooting gallery aid stations to cater to. This grotesque moment we’re having, fmd.

Probably around the same time the second amendment nuts realise that this; this, is the exact ■■■■■■■ scenario they use to justify their arsenal.

That is to say, never.

Ha! That’s the precise thing I was thinking of. I wonder if a Judge would ever, when being asked to give the President supreme constitutional powers over Congress in breach of the constitution as it is clearly written , says “fine, but in that case come back to me with a proposal to strike out the 2nd amendment as it is designed to protect against extreme executive power”.

“stupid” island. It’s the little things that are getting to me nowadays. Also if he’s feeling so strongly about the tech that his admin is giving carte blanche to he should run for some kind of representative role and develop Strong Laws. Farking idiotic carnt.
