VFL Signings - Season 2024

Would love our VFL team to become the unofficial Second Chance Saloon for all fringe players. Also the place where ex players want to come to play and develop their coaching.

Not as big as Jackson Hartley :frowning:

(Wrestler, member of TMDK, ex-NXT trainer)

You could plonk him in the goal square and no defender would go near him.

The VFL recruiting still needs to be balanced with an eye on overall make up. O’Neil and Hately cover off the solid, mature midfield which is good, but aren’t overly quick. I wouldn’t be adding another, but I’d be looking for some pacey small hff/hbf candidates and a VFL ruck option.

Agree. Need some HBF to play in the VFL as we are short on those on the AFL list. I’d go for Riley Bonner

I think VFL footy is too congested for Bonner, tbh.

Does Nick Hind have a brother?, could slot him in.

Would love next VFL signing to be a player from Tiwi…(Hint efc)

Personally I think winning is REALLY important for development of a young group. You need your young guys enjoying their footy and seeing the fruits of the work that they are putting in. This is one of the more positive developments in years.

The VFL team is starting to mimic our AFL team.
We’re winning pre-seasons baby!

Disappointed to see him go. Our most consistent VFL performer for mine

McCarty gone too. Heading to South Adelaide.
Spoke to a relative of Monty and he still isn’t sure what he is doing. Enjoyed his time with us and was entertaining staying in our VFL team but has been speaking to Footscray and they are potentially going to offer him a try out spot for their main list.

Jackson’s partner lives in Melbourne. He had a few options in the SANFL and spoke to a couple of clubs but ultimately decided to move to Melbourne to be with her.
He is a genuine tweener. Too good for second tier footy but not quite good enough to be a regular first team player

How does the pay in the SANFL compare to VFL? If he didn’t have the partner to consider would SANFL be more attractive?

If he wants to play AFL again you are best off playing in the second tiers but if you have no aspirations of playing at the top level most will head to country or ammo footy for decent money. Salary caps are similar between the SANFL and VFL. If he played SANFL he would probably get about $20-25k for the season but choosing Essendon as an AFL affiliated side he is probably only going to be on $10k ish.

He has never been given a full run at it as an inside mid in the seniors.

Every time he has played that role he’s been pretty good.
Definitely think he still has the potential to play Afl football in the future.

Yep. Finished 5th in the B&F last year (only behind Cootee out of the VFL-listed guys).

Few whispers a number of VFL players could be leaving including the captain. Hope not

Hardly surprising.

They were all young would be nice to keep them, but maybe better for them to explore other opportunities.

It appears as though they are basically trying to overhaul the whole VFL program from scratch which probably involves getting a new batch of players.

There are a number of different factors of course but we’ve been rubbish with whoever has been there the last 3-4 years so I’m not fussed who goes as long as they assemble a strong squad now. Some freshness mightn’t be a bad thing.

Tend to agree.

We had a fairly average batch of VFL listed players imo.

I’m happy to turn the whole list over, and support Rosa to build something new. You can’t continually finish in the bottom part of the ladder without repercussions.
