Except the evidence says it doesn’t
Lol.
I’m happy to put up whatever you are in a wager
What evidence?
Yeah good point.
nobody gets murdered in the US!
Question is how many more would be murdered? Let’s not use the US as an example because everybody has guns there.
Arrested guy is allegedly an 20 year old Aboriginal with a history of sex offences
So what your saying is that nobody saw this coming!
If you murder someone, you get a bullet to the head. I bet less people would do it.
Not many repeat offenders amongst the ranks of those who received the death penalty.
Going medieval has its distinct benefits.
The murder rate is higher in States with the death penalty than without.
The variable of guns is a non-starter because, as you say, they all have them.
So what your saying is that nobody saw this coming!
Well… makes it tougher for the likes of Jane Caro/Clementine Ford etc to pin it on “all” men, as the Gillette ad showed … only white guys do evil things to women
It’s actually a very good one to use a) because there is a lot of murders, b) because not all states have the death penalty and c) because some states have stopped and started the death penalty
The stats say that states with the death penalty have between 20 and 40% less murders (per capita).
Eg NY brought back the death penalty in the 90s. And murders dropped. Then removed it in 2007. Murders kept dropping. So there’s no argument there that it makes any (positive) difference. And a fair argument that it is counterproductive.
Yes, but an argument cannot be simply based on death penalty v no death penalty. You need to take into account standards of living (poverty rates), education etc.
The fact that the redneck states are the ones with death penalties won’t help the numbers.
Not many repeat offenders amongst the ranks of those who received the death penalty.
Going medieval has its distinct benefits.
Pretty hard to pardon someone you discover was wrongfully convicted when you hanged them 10 years back.
Going medieval is medieval.
One could postulate that the occasional error along the way is minor collateral damage in the quest for the greater good of a community.
Hope this guy wasn’t out on bail or on some kind of community service.
I’d hardly call Washington, Oregon or California red neck states.
And you are correct that a direct comparison is difficult to culture etc yet it is still more evidence than you have been able to supply in support of your argument.
One could postulate that the occasional error along the way is minor collateral damage in the quest for the greater good of a community.
Are you postulating that you can deal with the occasional innocent person getting executed if it prevents innocent people getting murdered by creeps? Because that argument works both ways. How many innocent people getting murdered by creeps can you deal with if it stops innocent people being executed?
The best argument against the death penalty isn’t what it does to the executed people, it’s what it does to the society that performs the execution.
Well, who would you rather be murdered by?
EH???
Im not referring to the rape and murder of the backpacker.
