Typical. Why the hell the police in this country don’t care enought to follow this up is beyond me.

Too busy sharing photos of white ribbons…
I’m generally against witchhunts, but if public naming and shaming of offenders is what it takes for law enforcement to actually do something, then it should happen more often.
I agree - for the legal heads out there - can it be used in his defense? Prejudice judge or jury?
I suspect there is more to this story than meets the eye.

Not sure.
But I do find it very unusual that a victim would willingly present herself to police with clear evidence of assault yet the police would do nothing about it.

Happens all the time Trip, it is why a lot of women refuse to go to the police first.
And then you wonder why women even bother going to the police…

Or maybe it’s different song I’m thinking of.
In an ideal world police would have the resources/empathy (delete where appropriate) to act on what is being reported to them. Unfortunately this isn’t the reality.
And then you wonder why women even bother going to the police...
Seriously IT, haven’t you ever done that?
Perfectly plausible argument I would have thought.
In fact it’s a huge contributing factor to dissent towards the police force.
“Why bother reporting the [assault/theft/vandalism/arson/jaywalking/two-up being played on a day other than Anzac Day]? They won’t do anything anyway.”
And then we get press conferences saying crime rates are falling. Sorry folks, the crimes you’re told about are falling because the public is losing faith in you.
The optimist in me likes to think that in a lot of cases it’s because they’re drastically under-resourced and simply can’t attend to the “too hard” basket. The pessimist in me points out that the optimist is wrong a lot of the time.

Where is your evidence of this? I was a poice officer and my entire command area had a zero tolerance to family violence.

Commendable.
What’s your experience of Magistrate’s tolerance of it?

When constructing a list of possible scenarios, that one would have been somewhere near the bottom. So unlikely to only be put forward in case of emergency.
l have been meaning to post in here for the last week or so, l just never got around to it. Last week l got some terrible news, my best friend back home, a woman l have known since 1983, informed me that she had been bashed. Well more than that actually. She had been thrown from a moving car, and kicked in both temples until she lost consciousness. Left for dead on the side of the road. This wasn’t done by her then current partner, but by his mates, while he looked on. The partner is now another ex, but l think he is as culpable as the gutless ■■■■■■ who did it. No fractures thankfully, but police have laid charges, while she has had part of her face glued back together. Alcohol and drugs were involved. My stomach turned as she told me what had happened. By my count this makes at least 4 time that men have beaten up on her, but there may be others l don’t know about.
A few years ago while l was on holidays in Thailand l got an urgent message from her. Her then husband had beaten her up and put her in hospital. l flew to Singapore the next day, and then we flew to Darwin to collect their Landcruiser and a caravan. We then shopped around to find a yard that would sell them on consignment for her. We had to act fast to prevent him form claiming any of the money, even though she had bought them. l did have to meet with the weak, miserable excuse for a human being to get him to sign the release papers. He was shaking at the time, don’ know why, don’t care. l managed to remain civil, for her sake, although she wasn’t there. His actions caused her to lose her teaching job in an international school, as a bashing was bad for the image of the school in the local community. As a result she lost a couple of thousand dollars she had paid out on a second apartment she had rented, to get away from him. All this after she had gotten him a job at her school, and had supported him. The reason he did it? He is bisexual and was ■■■■■■■■ the ladyboys downtown. She found out and fronted him with the truth. He couldn’t handle it and turned on her.
She is my best friend and l have seen her go through a lot. l have never seen her or anyone else feel lower than the day we picked up her car and headed for a card yard. She broke down completely, and it is perfectly understandable why. We stopped on the side of the road, and all l could do was hold her quietly until she regained herself a little. Her second husband was she said, her soul mate, but she had been totally and utterly betrayed, as he had carried on the lie of a double life for years, and had hidden the truth for his first wife as well. The first husband was an okay guy, in management, he just worked too hard and wasn’t around enough to help raise there girls, l did a bit of that.
l won’t let her blame herself for any of these attacks. It is the men that are at fault. She is funny, smart, and fun loving. l don’t know how this happens, or in her case has continued to happen. No one else l know of, has told me me any stories, but l am sure that it has happened to others. These ■■■■■■ deserve all the gaol time they should rightly get. Then again with our legal system who knows what will happen.
And then you wonder why women even bother going to the police...Seriously IT, haven’t you ever done that?

Come on Digs. Surely you stumble around rooms full of sleeping women with your ■■■■■ sticking out. At least occasionally. And slipping, falling over and landing on one of these sleeping women is something that surely is entirely plausible. It sounds reasonable to me. The women need to be more careful how and where they sleep.
And then you wonder why women even bother going to the police...
This is why I could never be a judge. I’d rage the fk out if he legitimately expected me to buy that.
You have to wonder what it is in a woman’s makeup that attracts her to violent men. If Captain Jack’s friend has been bashed by 4 different partners…
Bugger this, it sounds as if I’m shifting the blame, but some women do go for the bad boys, thinking they can alter their behaviour…rarely happens. There are also lots of women who are repulsed by violent men.

Careful.
It’s true. but I don’t think you’re allowed to say that anymore.
The real villain in this picture is the friend-zoned guy who bought her flowers.
