Whales

More than reptiles, yeah sure they do. Go on, keep proving me right about BB as per my St Vincent’s Appeal thread.

Iguanas are also not Native, . now you’d have to somehow get both…

Ok. I can’t work out what you want here mate,… nor why you’re getting upset. I’m out. :+1:

you are SO, SO, SOOOOOOOO getting ignored

Also relevant.
Although perhaps not as much as emotive language.

Promise please promise

We have mackeral, snapper, barra etc.

No other state eats or sells flake/gummy shark in the vast quantities as Victorians ie I haven’t found flake in any other place besides Vic

I have lived in Vic, NSW, NT & Qld

I think it’s very strange we pick and choose what creatures we think it’s acceptable to kill and eat. Even hypocritical. I’m pretty sure it’s just because it’s been done that way for so long. If somebody decided 20,000 years ago that whale was on the menu then we’d happily be eating it. I don’t think a tin of whales would be very practical though.

If you dig around different cultures most (all?) animals are on the menu somewhere. Other cultures would think we’re evil for eating cows.

Hindus don’t eat beef. Muslims and Jewish people don’t eat pork. I don’t eat pork but I’m not jewish or muslim. I just like pigs.

We have flake in WA…but they don’t call it that.

They just call it shark.

I like pigs too…especially when they come in the form of bacon.

Is it as popular in WA as Vic though?

It is the stock standard fish takeaway in Vic, unlike other places

Not sure…I always get it but then I’m originally from Vic.

I know that it’s not what you get if you just order a serve of fish and chips.

You have to ask for it specifically.

Six years later !!!

Very long ponder ; but I am not sure if it is size that makes us want to “save the whale”. Whales are nice, and do cute things, like little kittens, and no-one sane wants to hurt ■■■■■.

Too many squid apparently, which to some people might seem a good thing

It was school shark back in the 70’s.
Now they’re protected.
Now it’s gummy.
If they need protecting then I’m sure they will be.

Too many anything isn’t a good thing.
But the picture you linked to didn’t exactly explain why too many squid was damaging the ecosystem.

Last I heard, … It’s all still Schoolies 7 Gill and Gummys, … even Elephant Shark. It all goes into the same tubs under the same heading “Flake”

School shark used to have to be under a certain length coz’ Mercury, but I think that changed in the Mid 80’s.

Vin, I’m with @BLOODSTAINED_DEVILS on this one. He wasn’t rude at all. Just offered up some decent thoughts.

This may explain a lot.
