Just on Vinnies absolute point though, ⦠it all comes down to how we are socialised, what we learn as āNormsā, and the Nature Vs Nurture argument essentially.
That bald yank bloke Adam something did a series on Bizarre foods, and travelled to many different cultures and ate some stuff that here in the west, would simply make our gutz churn & think How tf are they eating that???
To them, it is normal and delicious, and they would possibly have the same feeling about a Big Mac or Mars Bar etc.
We donāt have to resort to using aliens to illustrate the point being made. We have enough obvious human examples from history to point out how people would feel.
Slavery in all itās forms ignores the feelings of slaves in order to exploit them for the economic power gain of the slave holder, this holds true from the Romans to the Confederates, and all stops in between. Put another way, it is reducing people to no more than functioning pieces of meat.
There is also another example that fits in here in place of the aliens. The Nazis in Germany treated the Jews of Europe as worse than pieces of meat. Hitler saw them as vermin to be exteminated. He wanted to annihilate every last one, reducing them to less than the ants used in the above metaphor.
Would anyone of us deny that slaves or Jews have feelings, the same as us? Hitler and the Nazis would have.
Q: Why did the lizard cross the road?
A: To get to the kitten on the other side.
My answer to the original question would be, if I can kill it and eat it, itās fair game.(If needed for survival) I have killed a chook to eat taught from my grandmother, have been the same with sheep and bovine.
I would not kill a domesticated animal if I had the choice over an animal that was not domesticated and bred for food, yes I would rather eat a lizard than a cat.
Small fry fish in the big ocean, yes done plenty of times, a whale or anything huge and having a longevity no.
Think itās about a few reasons and mainly supply and food breeding.
