On the Black Spur there are several ‘Slow Vehicle Turnouts’ clearly signposted. Cars will tootle at 30 km under the limit with a conga line behind them. But because THEY think they are going at the right speed they won’t pull over.
Had a worse one recently. Car stubbornly going 90-95 where unsafe to pass on the Melba highway coming up from Yea towards Yarra glen. There’s a fairly short overtaking lane - at which he stays in the right lane and speeds up, before slowing down once the overtaking lane ends. Clearly just a jerk.
Got stuck behind a car doing 20 km/h coming down off Baw Baw last year. No snow, no ice, no wet of any description.
Of all the mountains, Baw Baw is amazingly well equipped with regular (and signposted) pull-ins for slow vehicles, but no… this ■■■■■■■ idiot steadfastly refused … the entire way down the mountain with a traffic jam of cars behind them.
The symphony of horns and lightshow of flashing headlights was a thing to behold…
Builder groups who just take their sweet time getting work sorted (John Lyngs group).
5 weeks on and still drying walls. We have sleeping on concrete slab and mattress as they didnt have us booked for Temp accomodation (wife is pregnant) and no works done for weeks on end. They finally sent someone out to remove skirting boards to see black mold on the walls (4 weeks after intiial drying of concrete slab). Timber specialist annoyed at RestorX for drying slabs and wall but not hardwood flooring up hallway which caused it to be cupping. Specialist also said lots of mositure still in the wood there.
After 5 weeks though we are finally in temporary accomodation until 28th Nov. Builder from John Lyng group said no way will the work be done by then so he will contact RACV closer to 28th to let them know we need to extend as he said the work is extensive and more than they thought.
If they dont need to replace hardwood floor and just sand back we will be in around 15th Dec. If they need to replace we will be in by late January.
Wife and M.I.L will be fighting for the whole floor to be replaced and not just damage area as the Tasmanian Oak will look different since new Tas oak doesnt have the knots and streaks in it like our original has and it is a different shade. Also the timber expert said if they got onto it earlier, and didnt have sit there for 5 weeks, it wouldnt be as bad as it is.
I reckon that was a major factor. If Warner had just reacted to the insults about his wife and punched De ■■■■’s lights out, people would have thought more of him.
He was showing signs of slipping right over the edge.
every time I sit at my desk, the dogs think it’s mandatory to lay on their bed and lick obsessively. sometimes they’re not even grooming, one just licks the bed like an absolute numpty. the horribly repetitive sound could be used as a form of torture in CIA interrogations.
All these young idiots on their motorcycles are emerging with the warmer weather, riding in shorts / t shirts / runners. It’s their body / hospital time / deformities / futures I guess, but it’s the pillions that they don’t protect that really really annoys me. Was extremely prevalent this weekend.
A researcher I know is pushing for a law that states, more or less, ‘no exposed skin’ for motorcyclists. This would get around the problematic lack of standards for motorcycle protective clothing and associated issues. While average street wear won’t help much, in many cases it would be better than nothing, and such a rule would see at least some riders adopt decent gear if they’re forced to cover up fully in any case. I reckon it has some merit.
Not sure a mandatory rule would be practical. But a Jacket, gloves, boots and at minimum denim jeans every ride for me. And the same for any pillion that wants to come along ( a rarity these days, but my girlfriend-then-wife and I used to do big kilometers two-up and I was far more worried about her wellbeing than mine. I think that’s what annoys me the most. I’ve even seen guys with (presumably) their kids on the back and the kids are barely wearing any protective gear at all. I shudder to think of the consequences.
Maybe not from an enforcement perspective. It would not be very popular either, as acknowledged by the researcher I spoke to, who is also a rider. He said he’s prepared to cop all the criticism he knows would come from it.
I watched an amazing documentary yesterday on Foxtel called ’Bring Me Back To Life’. It was one of the most harrowing docos I’ve ever watched. It’s about a young bloke who was a passenger in a car accident who suffered spinal injuries and ended up in intensive care fighting for his life.
The family and health care professionals kept a video diary for him to watch if he ever woke up. I won’t tell you the outcome, but suffice to say I think anyone who ever rides, drives or is a vehicle passenger should watch this.
It’s a wake up call for every road user. Or should be.
We just got told we will be moving into long term accomodation as it has now blown out to 4 months estimate.
Dunno where and what type (air bnb, apartment etc) but we have stated that we need to be near our set hospital for baby #3 which is due early Feb and have pets as we have a cat. So hopefully we get a 3 or 4 bedroom.
So am i right the only way to follow our national soccer team as they attempt to qualify for biggest event on planet is to subscribe to paramount +? Farking disgrace
