Your first game

1975 at Waverley against North. We beat the eventual premiers that day.

Didn’t get to Windy Hill until 1982. Was against Melbourne, Ronnie and Jacko had a stoush in the goalsquare and someone threw a can at Jacko.

Well to continue on with the above story I am about to return to Punt Road on the 20th in 2 weeks time.
This occasion is for my Great Uncle Dave Watson for a Life Membership as a player in a Richmond Premiership 1902.
His brother my grandfather Joe Watson was already a life member .
This will be another offical event where I will have Essendon colours beneath my outer clothing.
The first time in the guard of honour for the first Womens AFL game at fark Carlton v Collingwood

Sydney swans v Essendon at colonial in 2002? Alessio kicked a goal just before the final siren to win us the match

2001 I think it was. We had kicked 5 goals for the first 3 quarters, kicked 4 goals in the last 10 minutes. We were down Lloyd and Hird and lost Johnson and I think another player before the first bounce.

I feel for my young nephew whose first game was Round 15 2017, v Brisbane.

And Scott Lucas kicked a right foot goal.

I got diagnosed with pneumonia 2 days later.

Round 21 2002, vs freo at colonial. May not have been the first but is the first i have a recollection of.

Against Melbourne at the G in 1957.

I was 4 and with all the uncles, aunts, grandpa, dad and cousins in front on the old Southern Stand. Spent the day clambering around on the seats and completely buggered my schnozz giving me persistent nosebleeds until getting it cauterised in the 80s.

No memories of the game, but Hutchy played and we lost comfortably.

Started going regularly and first membership in 1959.

I bought a proper Essendon scarf that day, stood on the hill in the forward pocket and watched Justin Madden mark over Geoff Southby in the goal square. Made the mistake of driving back along Mount Road and took 75 minutes to get back to the city.

1997, Round 10 v Footscray. We lost.

I reckon the first three or four games I went to were losses.

I was there as well, 9 years old.

It was not long after Mercuri lost his brother, and he took a mark (just before a break). A Hawthorn fan yelled out ‘take the mark and jump off the Westgate like your brother’.

We moved seats.

Round 7 1985 v North Melbourne at Waverley. 5 years old, All I remember is we got thumped and I asked my Aunt (A complete North tragic) if I should barrack for them instead.
Best advice I ever got was to stick with the Dons because you don’t change teams.

Anzac Day 1992 v Melbourne

One of the greatest come backs of all time and all I can remember is the “peanuts! peanuts!” selling bloke.

That comeback game.

Major dislike! I’ll never forgive them for what they did to our boys that day. Long may they have no success.

Round 18. 1998 vs Carlton. Was a classic, Scotty Lucas kicked the winner after Silvagni played on in goal square.

Round 15 1969 V Melbourne, . Windy Hill.

The Saturday after Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Moon,

We won by a Goal IIRC.

1995 Anzac Day draw.
I can’t remember a game before that but I’m sure I had been to a few.
Earliest memory is the 1990 grand final and eating fish and chips in the garage watching it on tv.

Essendon vs North 1982, Escort Cup, VFL Park

I’d been to an Essendon vs South Melborne at lake side oval earlier in the year for a reserves game, Swans had gone to Sydney at that stage but the twos still played and trained in vic and played as south, weird year.

V north at Arden st late season 1973. I reckon graham moss kicked the last goal to get us home by 3 points.
